Going..going..goneee..... one wink smily gone for ***** dollars !!
Here's something unexpected...
A Russian businessman claims to have trademarked the wink emotion in his country, and he's planning on charging businesses that use it. super kool eh???
Love em or hate em, emotions are part of the common usage now, don't u think?? But copyright on one? Lol. The guy's got brains.
By the way this dude's name is Oleg Teterin. He says the Russian federal patent agency has granted him a trademark on ;-), the wink emotion and he’s planning on charging companies that use it. Hahahaa.. Id love to see companies paying for it..
On one of the Russian television channels he said:
"I want to highlight that this is only directed at corporations, companies that are trying to make a profit without the permission of the trademark holder."
Rather graciously, he won’t go after individual users of the emoticon, but he does claim that since :-), ;), and :) all resemble the wink, he might as well own those too, according to the BBC.
hahaa.. Ohh mannn...super kool.
So on behalf of the Russian janta, thank you sir for leaving us individuals alone. U rock tough. I already like u.
